Founded in 1874, “Società Cooperativa Caramasche” is one of the most ancient milk-processing cooperatives in the area of Pegognaga. On the east wall of the milk room of the building for transforming milk into Parmesan cheese there is an image of the Madonna with Child, of Della Robbia inspiration. The large round format (50 cm. in diameter) is an englobed terracotta piece, under polychrome varnish, dated to the beginning of the seventeenth-century. Following recent cleaning, the polychromy of the floral garland surrounding the Virgin and Baby Jesus is very striking and its iconographic derivation can be ascribed to the “Madonna Corsini” by Luca della Robbia. Next to this Milk Room, a new and modern Dairy has been recently constructed, more suitable for current production demands.

The dairy dedicates itself to producing and selling – even directly – one of the best “made in Italy” cheeses, Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, known throughout the entire world.

Apart from the classic whole cheeses, slices of cheese are sold in vacuum-packed formats in order to perfectly preserve the fragrance and flavour of the product.
